Suvla Karasakız Blush is a dry rosé wine made by the Suvla winery on the Gallipoli Peninsula from the native Karasakız (Mavruplaia) grape unique to the peninsula. It takes its name from Suvla Bay on the northern Aegean coast and belongs to the producer's range focused on local grapes.
How is it made?
The grapes are harvested at full ripeness and processed using the saignée method: a portion of the red grape must is bled off after a brief skin contact and turned into rosé wine. This method brings out Karasakız's lively fruit character and salmon-pink colour. The producer's 2024 vintage is bottled at 13.5% ABV. Besides rosé, Suvla also produces red and reserve wines from this regional grape.
What does Suvla Karasakız Blush taste like?
It has a lively, salmon-pink colour. Raspberry, strawberry and redcurrant are accompanied on the nose by fresh herbal notes. Juicy summer fruits are felt on the palate, finishing clean and lingering.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
It is best served well chilled, at around 8–10°C. It pairs well with Aegean cuisine's olive-oil dishes, fish and seafood, and meze platters; it also makes an enjoyable match with salty cheeses such as halloumi.
