Koskenkorva Vodka

Koskenkorva Vodka is a 40% ABV plain barley vodka produced in the village of Koskenkorva, Finland, by the Anora group. Its recipe relies on just two ingredients: Finnish barley grown in the fields surrounding the distillery, and water from underground springs. The brand takes its name from the village where it is produced; the producer states the barley is grown with local farmers using regenerative farming methods and processed through a modern distillation process.

What does Koskenkorva Vodka taste like?

It is a clean, neutral vodka; on the nose a light black pepper sharpness, a faint hint of cream and a trace of toasted nuts can be detected. On the palate it offers a clean, dry structure, accompanied by black pepper and very light nutty notes. The finish closes with a mineral freshness and again a light peppery touch.

How is it served?

It can be drunk neat and chilled in small glasses; in Finland, this style of vodka is generally served at 4–6°C. Its neutral structure makes it a reliable base for long drinks with tonic, soda or fruit juices, and for classic cocktails such as the Moscow Mule and Bloody Mary.

What food does it pair with?

As on Nordic tables, it pairs well with herring, salmon and other smoked or marinated fish. A platter of pickles, olives and cold hors d'oeuvres also balances the plain vodka's clean structure.
