Apameia Vodka is a grain-based vodka brand produced in Turkey. Launched in 2006 at a drinks plant founded through a Turkish-Russian partnership in the Dinar district of Afyonkarahisar, it aimed to produce vodka from grain rather than molasses or grapes.
According to reports from the time, the factory's founders noticed that Russian tourists visiting Turkey were looking for the taste of grain vodka they were used to, and decided to produce vodka from wheat and malted barley. The brand's name comes from Apameia, the ancient name of Dinar. Apameia is now marketed as an Antalya-based brand, highlighting its production of wheat-alcohol vodka as a first in Turkey, and continues to expand its product range. The vodka is also sold in shops in Northern Cyprus.
Grain vodka is made by distilling alcohol from grains such as wheat, rye or barley to a high strength, then diluting it with water. Wheat-based vodkas are generally known for a smooth, lightly sweetish taste, which makes them suitable both for drinking neat and for use in cocktails.
It can be served chilled, either neat or as a long drink with ice, tonic and fruit juices. It pairs well with meze platters, fish and seafood, and fresh cheeses.
