Filipetti Vermouth Rosso is a red vermouth with 14.8% ABV, produced in Italy's Piedmont region and flavoured with aromatic herbs and spices. It follows the classic Italian sweet vermouth tradition and is used both for drinking neat and as a cocktail base.
How is it made?
Aromatic herbs and spices are steeped in alcohol for at least 30 days. The resulting extract is then blended with wine, alcohol and sugar. According to the producer, it contains around 140 grams of sugar per litre, placing it among the sweet vermouths.
What does it taste like?
The producer describes the nose as balanced and intense, built from aromatic herbs and spices, with a light vanilla touch. On the palate it is typically full-bodied and long-lasting.
How is it served?
Chilled, it can be drunk neat over ice or used in cocktails. Red vermouth is one of the core ingredients of classic cocktails such as Negroni, Americano and Manhattan. Once opened, the bottle should be refrigerated and used within a few weeks.
What food does it pair with?
As an aperitif, it pairs well with a small plate of olives, nuts and mature cheeses.
