Aperone Aperitivo

Aperone is an orange-flavoured Italian aperitif made by Pallini S.p.A., a Rome-based liqueur producer. Vanilla, orange peel and aromatic herbs are steeped in a mixture of alcohol and water; the solution is then left to rest and settle, giving the product its clear appearance.

What does Aperone taste like?

The producer describes Aperone as an intensely orange-coloured aperitif, elegant and lightly bitter. Gentian leads on the nose, joined by the balsamic touch of rhubarb. The first impression on the palate is sweet, round and velvety; bitterness emerges afterwards. Blood orange and sweet spice notes round out the taste.

How is it served?

It is an aperitif designed for spritz-style drinks: mixed with sparkling wine and a little soda in a glass full of ice, and served with an orange slice. It can also be drunk neat over ice or lengthened with tonic. Its sweet-to-bitter structure makes it a gentler starting option than more intense bitters.

What food does it pair with?

As in Italian aperitivo tradition, it goes well with light snacks before dinner. Olives, small meze plates, salted nuts and cheese canapés balance Aperone's sweet-bitter orange character.
