Drumshanbo Gunpowder California Orange Citrus Gin

Drumshanbo Gunpowder California Orange Citrus Gin is a 43% ABV Irish gin made at The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim, Ireland. It is a version of the classic Drumshanbo Gunpowder recipe enriched with California orange. The orange idea came from distillery founder PJ Rigney's trip to the citrus groves north of San Francisco Bay. The gin is distilled slowly by hand in medieval-style copper pot stills; the bottles are hand-filled and labelled at the distillery.

What's in it?

The recipe consists of eight botanicals distilled in the pot and four infused by vapour. China's "gunpowder" green tea, juniper and meadowsweet are among the core components. In this edition, California orange is used as one of the four vapour-infused botanicals, preserving a fresh, sun-ripened fruit character.

What does it taste like?

Bright orange notes combine with the gin's Oriental botanicals and green tea texture. It drinks lively and fresh; the finish is soft and balanced. Its citrus side is more pronounced than classic Gunpowder.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

A gin and tonic made with plenty of ice, good-quality tonic and a slice of orange is the simplest serve. Its citrus-forward character suits grilled fish and seafood, sushi and citrus salads.
