Drumshanbo Gunpowder Sardinian Citrus

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Sardinian Citrus is a 43% ABV Irish gin made at The Shed Distillery in Ireland. It adds to the Drumshanbo Gunpowder recipe a rare citrus fruit that grows only on the island of Sardinia, "sa pompia" (Citrus monstruosa). This fruit grows around the village of Siniscola on the island and is considered a relative of orange and grapefruit.

How is it made?

The gin is distilled slowly by hand in medieval-style copper pot stills. The recipe includes eight botanicals distilled in the pot and four botanicals infused by vapour; gunpowder green tea, juniper and meadowsweet are among them. The Sardinian citrus is used as one of the four botanicals whose aroma is taken up by vapour. This edition is also known for its ceramic bottle.

What does it taste like?

The distinctive, fragrant Sardinian citrus layers over the gin's Oriental botanicals and green tea notes. It drinks fresh and exotic; the finish is completed by a lively dryness reminiscent of the Mediterranean.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

It suits light long drinks made with plenty of ice and gin and tonic, or with lemon juice; it can be garnished with a grapefruit slice and mint. Its citrus character pairs well with fish and seafood, sushi and fresh salads.
