Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin Dragon Edition is a 43% ABV limited-edition Irish gin made by The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim, Ireland, for the 2024 Chinese Year of the Dragon. It comes in a hand-crafted, gold-leaf-decorated ceramic bottle and holds a special place for collectors.
What makes gunpowder gin special?
Inspired by founder PJ Rigney's travels in the East, the recipe brings Oriental botanicals together with plants native to Ireland. The botanical list, as described by retailers, includes angelica root, orris root, caraway, cardamom, coriander, Chinese lemon, kaffir lime and the Chinese gunpowder green tea that gives the gin its name. The gin is distilled in traditional copper pot stills.
How does the Dragon Edition differ from the classic?
This edition launched as a series offered only through 2024 for Lunar New Year celebrations. Its main distinguishing feature is its ceramic bottle designed with a Chinese dragon theme; its alcohol content is the same 43% as the classic Gunpowder.
How should it be served?
The producer's classic recommendation for Gunpowder is plenty of ice, a good-quality tonic and a generous slice of red grapefruit. The gin can also be used comfortably in citrus-forward cocktails.
Which dishes does it pair with?
Its citrus- and tea-forward botanicals suit sushi, seafood and lightly spiced Asian cuisine.

- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
