Chivas Regal Extra Smoky is a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky with a pronounced smoky character, added by Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard) to its Extra Cask Selection range in 2024. Ahead of its global rollout, it was first launched exclusively in Turkey in November 2024.
What sets Extra Smoky apart?
According to the producer, smoky casks have always featured in the Chivas Regal blend, but these notes remained very subtle on the palate. In Extra Smoky, the influence of these smoky casks is deliberately increased, adding a more distinctive smoke character to the blend's soft, deep flavours. The range is based on the idea of adding extra flavour through cask selection, alongside other Extra expressions finished in Irish whiskey, tequila, rum and oloroso sherry casks. The gold lines on the coal-coloured packaging also reflect this smoky character.
What does Chivas Regal Extra Smoky taste like?
Spiced apple and charred chestnut notes are felt on the nose. On the palate, fresh cranberry, sweet caramel and gingerbread stand out. On the finish, star anise and a warm campfire smoke appear.
How should it be served, and what does it pair with?
It can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, and the producer also recommends it in mixes such as a smoky espresso cocktail. The balance of smoke and caramel pairs very well with barbecued and grilled red meat; it also goes well with dark chocolate desserts.
