Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is a 40% ABV luxury blended Scotch whisky from Chivas Brothers (Pernod Ricard), prepared from whiskies matured for at least 18 years. The producer states this blend contains over 85 different flavour notes; in some markets it has been sold under the name "Gold Signature".
What does Chivas Regal 18 Year Old taste like?
It is a layered, complex whisky. The nose opens richly and with many layers: dried fruit, buttery caramel and dark chocolate. On the palate, velvety dark chocolate, floral notes and a sweet, soft smokiness are felt. The finish is very warming and long. The producer describes a wide-ranging tasting spectrum, from caramel to pear drops, crisp apple to a light trace of smoke.
How should it be served?
It is recommended neat or on the rocks, to explore its layers of flavour. The producer also recommends a martini-style serve that highlights its depth, the Regal Martini.
What food does it pair with?
Its dark chocolate and dried fruit notes pair very well with chocolate desserts and mature cheeses; it can also be enjoyed as an after-dinner whisky following grilled red meat.
