Tekirdağ Rakısı Göbek is a 45% ABV Turkish raki that Mey|Diageo distils from 100% fresh-grape suma and bottles from the heart of the still. "Göbek" (heart) is the middle section of the raki that flows during distillation, considered the most valuable, once the first and last fractions are separated out.
What sets Tekirdağ Göbek apart from the classic Tekirdağ?
Both are made from fresh grapes; however, Göbek uses only the middle section of the distillation. This choice gives the raki a fuller, more substantial character compared with the classic Tekirdağ Rakısı.
What does Tekirdağ Göbek taste like?
It whitens well when water is added. Intense aniseed and fresh grape aromas are pronounced on the nose. On the palate it has a full, oily texture; it is described as a more substantial version of the standard Tekirdağ Rakısı.
How is it served?
It is drunk in a narrow-waisted glass, diluted with cold water; ice is added last. Those who love drinking it neat can chill it well and keep a separate glass of cold water alongside.
What food does it pair with?
Alongside Mediterranean mezes and seafood, its full character means it can also be tried with spiced south-eastern flavours and kebabs.
