Bushmills Original is a 40% ABV blended Irish whiskey produced by the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is the brand's best-known product, combining its single malt whiskey with a lighter grain whiskey.

How is it made?

The grain whiskey used in Bushmills Original is matured in American oak barrels for at least five years before being blended with Irish single malt whiskey. The producer states that its recipe dates back to before Prohibition in the US, which is why the whiskey suits classic cocktails. The distillery now belongs to Proximo Spirits.

What does Bushmills Original taste like?

It is pale gold in colour. The nose shows a light, fruity and spicy character. The palate offers a gently warming sip with a touch of honey, joined by velvety vanilla. The finish is fresh, lively and lightly spiced. The body is light-to-medium and its sweetness is measured; it carries no smoky note.

How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?

It is favoured neat, on ice, or in highball-style long drinks made with soda or ginger ale; it can also be used in hot drinks such as Irish coffee. Its light, fruity character pairs comfortably with chicken dishes, light meze and breakfast-brunch spreads.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
