Tekirdağ Rakısı Altın Seri is a 45% ABV Turkish raki produced by Mey|Diageo from 100% fresh grapes, distilled in copper stills and rested in oak barrels. Known internationally as the Gold Series, the range launched in 2005 according to the producer.
Suma obtained from fresh grapes is distilled with quality aniseed seeds in copper stills. The raki is then rested in oak barrels; according to retailers, this period is 90 days. Time spent in the barrel gives the raki both its namesake golden colour and a smoother character.
It shows a light yellowish colour in the glass, turning milky white when water is added. Spiced notes and bouquets reminiscent of damson plum are noticeable on the nose. On the palate, the fruity base of the grape and the fine spice of the aniseed sit in harmony; light woody notes from the barrel enrich the taste.
At 8–10 °C, it is drunk neat or with cold water in a narrow-waisted glass. The producer recommends drinking it neat alongside main courses or after a meal.
It pairs with mezes, cheese, grilled vegetables, fish and seafood as well as meat dishes; it also goes well with the spiced flavours of the Mediterranean.
