Bell's Original

Bell's Original is a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky from Diageo, rooted in a blending tradition that began in 1825 at Arthur Bell's grocery shop in Perth. This blend, which carries no age statement, is the brand's core product.

What is the story of Bell's?

Originally a tea blender, Arthur Bell began by mixing local whiskies in his shop in Perth. Growing with the involvement of his sons Arthur Kinmond and Robert Duff Bell, the brand was registered under the signature "Arthur Bell & Sons" in 1896. The brand is also known for its bell-shaped ceramic bottles released for special occasions.

What does Bell's Original taste like?

It has a bright golden colour. The nose shows a sweet, malty structure with notes reminiscent of nutty confectionery, red apple and freshly cut grass; underneath there is a light peat smoke. The palate is creamy and soft; a note of smoke reminiscent of a campfire becomes more pronounced, joined by echoes of honey, buttery caramel, red apple, raisin and gingerbread.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as a long drink with ginger ale and soda. Its lightly smoky character pairs well with barbecued and grilled red meat, as well as with nuts.
