Sevilen Böğürtlen Şarabı is a fruit wine made with blackberry by Sevilen, an İzmir-based producer that has made wine since 1942. Blackberry, dark-coloured and known for its wild-fruit character, is the key ingredient in this wine.
Sevilen Şarap Sanayi was founded in 1942 by İsa Güner, who trained in viticulture and winemaking in Bulgaria, and is today run by the third generation of the Güner family. The company produces from Aegean vineyards around İzmir and high-altitude vineyards on the Anatolian plateau. Alongside its grape wines, Sevilen also sells fruit wines made from blackberry, black mulberry, blueberry, pomegranate and sour cherry.
Fruit wine is the general term for wines made by fermenting the juice of fruits other than grapes. Among forest fruits, blackberry stands out for its dark colour and sweet-sour balance; it lends this fruit wine the same dark colour and wild-fruit aroma. We recommend checking the bottle label for technical details such as alcohol content and sweetness level.
Fruit wines are generally served chilled. Blackberry wine can be served with fruit tarts, chocolate desserts and a cheese board, or in small glasses after a meal.
