Kavaklıdere Yakut

Kavaklıdere Yakut is a dry red wine from the classic series of Kavaklıdere, which has made wine since 1929. It is made chiefly from Öküzgözü and Boğazkere, along with Alicante Bouschet and Carignan grapes; the grapes are selected from vineyards in the Eastern Anatolia and Aegean regions. It has long been regarded as one of Turkey's best-known red wines.

What does Kavaklıdere Yakut taste like?

It is a wine of the vivid ruby colour that gives it its name (yakut means "ruby" in Turkish). The nose shows red fruits such as sour cherry, cherry, raspberry and plum, joined by floral touches reminiscent of violet and light spice. The palate is medium-bodied; soft tannins are balanced by lively acidity, giving a fruity, rounded drink. A light, spiced warmth lingers on the finish.

How should it be served?

Yakut is a wine made for young drinking. Served at around 16°C in a wide-bowled red wine glass, its fruit character shows at its best. In summer, keeping the bottle in a cool place briefly before serving helps preserve the balance.

What food does Kavaklıdere Yakut pair with?

Its lively acidity and soft tannins make it an easy match for meat dishes. Grilled red meats, meatballs, mildly spiced kebabs and pastries with meat filling are good accompaniments. It is also a safe choice at barbecue tables.
