Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition

Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition is a 40% ABV, triple-distilled blended Irish whiskey produced by Irish Distillers (Pernod Ricard). Jameson's blend receives its final maturation in casks that previously held Irish craft stout beer.

How did it come about?

The series began with a conversation between Jameson's whiskey science manager and the head brewer of the Franciscan Well brewery in Cork. Jameson casks were sent to the brewery to mature stout; the casks, now sweetened by the stout, were then refilled with whiskey. The stout cask adds cocoa, coffee and butterscotch notes to classic Jameson.

What does Jameson Caskmates Stout taste like?

The nose offers freshly cut hay, orchard fruit such as green apple and pear, and a touch of lime zest; light pot still spice deepens towards green tea, nuts and milk chocolate. The palate carries the sweet, mouth-coating texture typical of pot still, rounded off by light hops and cocoa nibs from the beer cask. The finish is long and sweet, with milk chocolate and butterscotch standing out.

How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?

It can be enjoyed neat, on ice or with soda; thanks to its coffee and cocoa notes it is also used in coffee-based cocktails such as an espresso martini. It pairs well with chocolate desserts, coffee-accompanied sweets and roasted nuts.
