Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition is a 40% ABV, triple-distilled blended Irish whiskey produced by Irish Distillers (Pernod Ricard). Jameson's classic blend receives a final maturation (finish) in casks that previously held Irish IPA beer.
What is the Caskmates series?
Caskmates was born from a collaboration between Jameson and the Franciscan Well brewery in Cork: Jameson's used casks were sent to the brewery to mature beer, and the beer-soaked casks were then reused for whiskey. Following the Stout edition, the IPA Edition is prepared with casks that carry the traces of a hop-forward IPA. The result is a whiskey that adds hop and citrus freshness to Jameson's smoothness.
What does Jameson Caskmates IPA taste like?
The nose shows floral, herbal hops and grapefruit-like citrus, with light orchard fruit, sawdust and a hint of nuttiness behind it. The palate combines hops and light citrus with sweet herbal notes and delicate spice. On the finish, fresh fruit and hops give way to barley and a soft close.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It can be enjoyed on ice, with soda, or as a "boilermaker", alternated sip for sip with a glass of IPA beer. Its refreshing, citrusy character pairs well with pizza, spicy dishes and barbecue flavours.
