Writers' Tears Red Head is a 46% ABV single malt Irish whiskey from Walsh Whiskey (Amber Beverage Group), matured exclusively in oloroso sherry casks. It is the sherry-forward, more intense member of the Writers' Tears range.
How is it made?
Unlike the other products in the range, Red Head is not a blend but a standalone single malt whiskey. It is matured entirely in oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration. This approach brings out the dried-fruit and nutty notes of the sherry cask while preserving the whiskey's natural texture.
What does Writers' Tears Red Head taste like?
The nose shows candied orange peel, dried fruit, sherried plum, chocolate-covered marzipan and praline. The palate offers nutty oloroso, spiced raisins, Christmas cake, tangy pineapple, liquorice and melting milk chocolate, accompanied by creamy oak. The finish is long and layered, closing with walnut, baking spice and a touch of orange.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It is a whiskey to be sipped slowly after a meal, neat or with a few drops of water. Its sherried character pairs well with mature cheeses, chocolate desserts and nuts such as walnut and hazelnut.

- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
