Mateus Rosé Original is the classic, 11% ABV, off-dry, lightly sparkling rosé wine from the Portuguese Sogrape group's Mateus brand. The brand's classic wine, this rosé is made from Portugal's native red grapes (Baga, Rufete, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca).

How is it made?

Production follows the white-wine method: the grape juice is fermented slowly at 16°C in stainless steel tanks, without contact with the skins. The wine is rested on its fine lees for around two months, then bottled after clarification, cold stabilisation and filtration. This process is designed to preserve the brand's well-known colour, freshness and lightly effervescent texture. It contains around 15g of sugar per litre, placing it in the medium-sweet category.

What does Mateus Rosé Original taste like?

It has a bright, attractive pink colour. It has a fresh, fruity bouquet typical of young wines, with plenty of intensity. On the palate it is soft, balanced and easy to drink; its lightly sparkling finish adds liveliness to the wine.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

It is recommended to serve it well chilled, at 6–8°C. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif or as a refreshing drink during the day. It pairs well with light dishes, fish and seafood, white meats, grilled food and fresh salads.

Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
