Mateus Rosé Dry

Mateus Dry Rosé is a 12.5% ABV dry rosé wine produced by the Portuguese Sogrape group under the Mateus brand from the Bairrada DOC region, made from a blend of 70% Baga and 30% Syrah. It is a drier interpretation of the classic Mateus Rosé; on older labels it also appears under the name Mateus Dry Selection.

How is it made?

The wine is made solely from red grapes, without skin contact. The grapes are gently crushed and lightly pressed; the resulting pale pink must is clarified and then fermented at a controlled temperature of 14–16°C. The wine is then rested on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks for three months, a process that adds depth to its texture.

What does Mateus Dry Rosé taste like?

It has a pale, elegant colour. Gooseberry, cherry and strawberry aromas are prominent on the nose; the producer emphasises a high aromatic intensity. On the palate it is balanced, distinctly fruity and lively in acidity, finishing with a refreshing, clean aftertaste.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

It is recommended to serve it at 8–10°C; consuming it soon after opening preserves its freshness. It pairs well with light, flavourful dishes, especially fresh salads; its aromatic character also complements the spiced dishes of Asian cuisine and sushi.
