Mateus Branco is a light, fresh white wine at 10% ABV from Portugal's best-known wine producer Sogrape, under the Mateus brand. Made entirely from white grapes, it interprets the Mateus style, known for its lightly perlant (very fine sparkle) texture, in white wine form.
The wine is made from Portugal's native white grape varieties Arinto, Bical, Fernão Pires and Malvasia. Modern methods that preserve freshness, balance and a youthful character are used in production; the wine is clarified and cold-stabilised before bottling. The resulting style is an easy-drinking, refreshing white for everyday moments.
It has a bright colour reminiscent of citrus tones and a fresh, fruity aroma. On the palate it's lively and balanced; its crisp acidity makes it a light, easy-drinking wine. As it contains roughly 10 grams of sugar per litre, a light softness is detectable in the taste.
The producer recommends serving it at 6-8°C. Drinking it within 24 hours of opening is advised to preserve the perlant freshness.
It can be enjoyed as an aperitif or as a refreshing choice throughout the day. It pairs well with grilled fish, seafood, fresh salads and light dishes.
