Casal Mendes Moscatel

Casal Mendes Moscatel is a white wine named after the Moscatel (Muscat) grape, presented under the Casal Mendes brand of Aliança, one of Portugal's well-established wine houses. Casal Mendes is today part of the Bacalhôa Wines of Portugal group.

What's the story behind the Casal Mendes brand?

Casal Mendes wine production began in the 1980s with Casal Mendes Vinho Verde. Following the popularity of the brand's white and rosé wines, the range was expanded; today it forms a modern, colourful family that includes dry and off-dry whites, reds and rosés, as well as sangria and fruit-flavoured sparkling drinks. What unites the range is that they are all easy-drinking wines designed for everyday tables.

What character does the Moscatel grape give?

Moscatel is the name given in Portugal to grapes of the Muscat family. These grapes are known for their distinctive aromas reminiscent of the grape itself, along with floral and fruity notes; Moscatel wines therefore generally offer an aromatic, easily recognisable profile. In Portugal, the Setúbal peninsula in particular is a region synonymous with Moscatel. For technical details such as this bottle's alcohol content and sweetness level, please refer to the label.

How is it served, and which foods does it pair with?

Aromatic white wines are generally served chilled to 8-10°C. Moscatel's fruity character pairs well with fruit desserts, fresh cheeses and light meze. It can also be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif.
