Greenall's The Original London Dry Gin is a 37.5% ABV London Dry gin made by G&J Distillers, known as England's oldest gin producer. Its roots trace back to 1761, when Thomas Dakin began producing gin in Warrington; the gin was known in the 1700s as Warrington Dry Gin.
The recipe is built on eight botanicals from Dakin's original formula: juniper, lemon peel, coriander, cassia bark, angelica root, orris root, liquorice root and bitter almond. The botanicals are steeped in English wheat spirit before being distilled in copper pot stills. According to the producer, the gin has passed through the hands of seven generations of master distillers.
Its nose is classic and fresh; juniper and citrus lead. On the palate it is dry and juniper-forward, accompanied by earthy notes and ripe citrus. The producer describes the gin as silky and lightly spiced, balancing a fine bitterness with a light sweetness. The finish is round, citrusy and earthy-spiced.
It suits a classic gin and tonic or a Dry Martini. When made with tonic, lemon peel or lime is the recommended garnish.
Its balanced, dry profile suits grilled fish, seafood and olive-oil meze platters.
