Tanqueray No. Ten

Tanqueray No. Ten is a 47.3% ABV premium gin produced at Diageo's Cameronbridge distillery in Scotland. Launched in 2000, this gin adds fresh whole citrus fruit and chamomile flower to the classic Tanqueray recipe, and was designed specifically with the Martini in mind.

What sets Tanqueray No. Ten apart?

At its base are the classic Tanqueray botanicals of juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice root. To these, whole grapefruit, orange and lime, along with chamomile flower, are added. The fresh citrus is distilled separately, then combined with the main distillate; the result is a bright citrus character drawn from fresh fruit rather than dried peel.

What does Tanqueray No. Ten taste like?

Juniper leads on the nose, accompanied by lime peel, red grapefruit, liquorice root and angelica notes. On the palate a soft entry brings juniper, bitter orange and lemon; in the middle, pink grapefruit and angelica appear, followed by creamy liquorice root, pine-needle-like juniper and a light pepperiness. On the finish, juniper slowly recedes, leaving citrus peel and an earthy trace.

How is it served?

Because of its high strength and citrus-forward structure, it is most often used in a well-chilled Martini finished with grapefruit or lemon peel. A gin and tonic with plenty of ice, and classic cocktails such as the Tom Collins and Corpse Reviver No. 2, also work well.

What does Tanqueray No. Ten pair with?

Its citrus notes make it a good match for seafood, especially light dishes such as oysters and prawns, sushi and lemon-dressed green salads.
