Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 Year Old is a 46% ABV single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenmorangie Distillery in the Highlands, matured for 16 years with the final two years spent in sweet white wine casks. It replaces the distillery's earlier Nectar D'Or.
How is it made?
According to the producer, the whisky first matures for 14 years in bourbon casks, then rests for two years in a combination of different sweet wine casks: Sauternes and Monbazillac from France, Moscatel from Spain and Tokaji from Hungary. Sauternes and Monbazillac add pastry, brioche and baked apple notes; Moscatel adds syrupy sweetness; Tokaji adds white chocolate, almond and honeycomb notes.
What does Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 Year Old taste like?
The nose shows baked brioche, wine lees, baked apricot, vanilla custard, toasted almond and chestnut, with traces of chocolate truffle; a splash of water reveals confectionery sweetness, orange syrup and a herbal note reminiscent of sage. The palate has an intense, sticky texture accompanied by a fresh lemon-peel liveliness; vanilla cream, baked apricot, raisin bread, toasted chestnut, nutmeg and star anise arrive in layers. The finish is long and lasting, leaving lemon peel, fresh bread and honeycomb.
How should it be served?
It is recommended neat or with a few drops of water; its sweet character makes it a suitable after-dinner whisky.
What food does it pair with?
Its sweet-wine-cask character pairs well with fruit desserts, especially apricot and apple tarts, chocolate desserts and mature cheeses.

- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Keep wine bottles on their side and spirits upright.
- Serve white/rosé and sparkling wine at 6–12°C, and reds at 16–18°C.
- Keep opened bottles closed; drink wine within a few days of opening.
