Gilbey's London Dry Gin

Gilbey's Gin is one of Diageo's global gin brands, produced in Turkey by Diageo Türkiye (Mey|Diageo). Gin is a colourless spirit made by distilling grain alcohol with juniper and various other botanicals, with juniper aroma to the fore; Gilbey's is one of the long-established brands in this classic style.

What is the origin of the Gilbey's brand?

The brand's roots go back to a small retail wine shop that brothers Walter and Alfred Gilbey opened in a basement on London's Oxford Street in 1857. The brothers' company, W&A Gilbey, grew rapidly, and in 1875 acquired a wine estate in Bordeaux's Médoc region and two whisky distilleries in Scotland. When the firm became a limited company in 1893, Walter Gilbey took charge of it. The brand is now part of the Diageo portfolio.

How should it be served?

The classic serve is a gin and tonic made with plenty of ice, tonic water and a slice of lemon or lime. It is also a practical base for simple mixes such as the Gimlet, Tom Collins and gin and orange juice.
