Gilbey's Vodka

Gilbey's Vodka is an international vodka brand within the Diageo portfolio, distributed in Turkey by Diageo Turkey. It takes its name from the Gilbey family, who built a wine and spirits business in 19th-century London.

The story behind the Gilbey's name

Brothers Walter and Alfred Gilbey founded a wine and spirits merchant house in London after returning from the Crimean War. As retail liquor licences became more widespread in England in 1860 and duties on French wines fell, the firm grew rapidly, building a network of dealers across the country. Over time, the Gilbey's name became associated particularly with gin; the brand passed into today's Diageo through International Distillers & Vintners and Grand Metropolitan. Gilbey's Vodka is the vodka arm of this long-established brand.

What kind of drink is vodka?

Vodka is obtained by distilling alcohol of agricultural origin to a high strength and diluting it with water; the aim is a clean, smooth, neutral taste. This makes it an essential base in cocktails and long drinks.
