Casal Mendes Blue is a sky-blue coloured, wine-based drink at 9.9% ABV, made by Portuguese producer Aliança under the Casal Mendes brand. It's prepared using a fresh, fruity white wine as its base; the producer positions it as a cocktail-style drink designed for aperitifs and social gatherings.
What kind of drink is Casal Mendes Blue?
The Casal Mendes brand is known in Portugal for its Vinho Verde and rosé wines. In 2016, the brand added Blue to this line as a modern, unconventional interpretation. The white wine base is made from Azal, Arinto and Fernão Pires grapes; this base, with its good acidity, is balanced by a light sweetness on the finish. Its alcohol content, lower than standard wines, makes it suitable for those looking for a light drink.
What does it taste like?
It has a bright, sky-blue colour and a fruity aroma. On the palate a light, tangy freshness stands out; its finish is soft and lightly sweetish.
How is it served?
The producer recommends serving it well chilled, at 8-10°C. It's meant to be drunk young; it can be enjoyed neat or used as a base for colourful cocktails.
Which foods does it pair with?
It pairs well with shellfish, white meats such as chicken, light salads and pasta dishes; it's also popular as an aperitif in summer.
