Casal Mendes Tinto is a 12% ABV, easy-drinking red wine from the Casal Mendes range of Portugal's Aliança, made from Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional grapes. Now part of the Bacalhôa group's portfolio, the Casal Mendes brand began in the 1980s with a Vinho Verde and has grown over time into a broad family of white, rosé and red wines.
What does Casal Mendes Tinto taste like?
It is ruby coloured with a fruity nose. The palate is medium-bodied; natural acidity gives the wine balance, with a light sweetness on the finish.
What grapes is it made from, and how?
The blend brings together two of Portugal's best-known red grapes: Tinta Roriz, known as Tempranillo in Spain, and Touriga Nacional, the signature grape of the Douro. The wine is produced with cold fermentation lasting around seven days in stainless steel tanks. The producer spreads fermentation across the year to offer a fresh, consistent wine year-round.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
The producer recommends serving at 16–18°C. It pairs well with pasta, chicken and light dishes; it is a good match for everyday plates such as pasta with tomato sauce and roast chicken.
