Talisker Port Ruighe

Talisker Port Ruighe is a 45.8% ABV single malt Scotch whisky produced by Diageo at the Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye, given a second maturation in port wine casks. Its name comes from the Gaelic spelling of Portree, Skye's old harbour town, and pays tribute to the Scottish traders who played a role in establishing the port trade.

What does the port cask add to Talisker?

The whisky first matures in American oak casks, then is transferred to port casks. This finish adds the full sweetness of ripe plum and dark red fruit to Talisker's well-known maritime, smoky, peppery character. The result is an island malt that is rounder and fruitier than classic Talisker, without losing any of its smokiness.

What does Talisker Port Ruighe taste like?

The nose combines the sweet smoke of a dying wood fire with ripe plum aromas. On the palate, peppery spice quickly turns to peat; a creamy smokiness intertwines with dark fruit and spice. The finish is long and mouth-filling, leaving a cocoa-toned, drying smoke on the tongue.

How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?

The producer states this whisky is designed to be drunk neat; serving it at room temperature in a tulip-shaped glass shows its aromas best. Its smoky, fruity character pairs well with grilled red meat, mature hard cheeses and dark chocolate desserts.
