Skagerrak Nordic Dry Gin

Skagerrak Nordic Dry Gin is a 44.9% ABV Nordic dry gin produced in Norway by Arcus. It takes its name from the Skagerrak strait between Norway, Sweden and Denmark; the recipe was developed through collaboration begun by six professional bartenders from these three countries during a voyage across the strait.

How is Skagerrak Gin made?

The gin's base spirit is made from potatoes sourced from local farmers that would otherwise go unused. Alongside juniper, Nordic botanicals such as angelica and caraway are combined with coastal plants including seaweed, sea buckthorn, chamomile and rosehip. Production takes place at Arcus's Gjelleråsen facility in Norway, and the producer states that geothermal energy is used.

What does Skagerrak Gin taste like?

On the nose, cucumber and green-leaf freshness appear around the juniper, accompanied by light spice, raspberry and elderflower notes. On the palate, seaweed and green plant notes become more pronounced; in the middle there is a peppery spiciness, cinnamon bark and nutmeg, along with the floral touch of rosehip. On the finish, rosehip and elderflower respond to the earlier green notes with a light sweetness.

How is it served?

The producer recommends a classic gin and tonic with lemon peel, a Dry Martini, or a Negroni. A Nordic-style gin and tonic made with sea salt and celery stalk also highlights the brand's coastal character.

What does Skagerrak Gin pair with?

Its seaweed and salty coastal notes create a natural match with fish and seafood, especially raw fish dishes such as sushi. Fresh, herb-dressed green salads are also a good accompaniment.
