Sierra Reposado is a reposado tequila at 38% ABV rested in oak casks by the family company Destilerías Sierra Unidas (NOM 1451) in Guadalajara. Recognised by its red-and-gold sombrero cap, this tequila is one of the two most popular members of the Sierra range.
Time spent in cask gives it its golden colour. Its fresh, fruity base is accompanied by delicate vanilla, caramel and herbal notes; its aroma is complex and inviting. On the palate it's soft and rounded; vanilla and caramel sweetness are balanced by agave. Cask contact softens the edges and gives the tequila a fuller drinking experience.
Mature agaves grown at roughly 1,600 metres in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains are slowly roasted, fermented with the family's own yeast strain and distilled twice in traditional copper pot stills. The tequila is then rested in toasted oak casks.
As retailers suggest, it can be drunk as a shot with a pinch of cinnamon and an orange slice; it's also used over ice or in cocktails such as the Margarita and Paloma. It pairs well with tacos, quesadillas and grilled meats.
