Corralejo Reposado is a reposado tequila at 38% ABV made from 100% blue Weber agave at the historic Hacienda Corralejo in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Hacienda Corralejo is known as one of the country's oldest and most traditional tequila production sites; Guanajuato also lies within the designated tequila region.
How is Corralejo Reposado made?
The tequila is distilled twice using the Charentais method, originally from cognac production; this method delivers a smooth, aromatic distillate. It is then rested for at least four months in American oak casks. This combines the freshness of blanco tequila with the vanilla and caramel notes gained from the cask.
What does it taste like?
The pale gold tequila carries fresh agave, vanilla, sweet spices, caramel and light oak on the nose. On the palate a soft, harmonious sweetness is felt; vanilla, toasted wood, pepper and a touch of citrus are detectable. The finish is pleasantly long and lightly spiced; caramel and oak notes linger.
How is it served?
It can be drunk neat or over ice to show its complex aromas. It also adds depth to cocktails such as a tequila Old Fashioned, a reposado Margarita and an El Diablo.
Which foods does it pair with?
It pairs well with grilled meats, spicy tacos and mature cheeses. Roasted nuts and dark chocolate are also good accompaniments.
