Sierra Gold

Sierra Gold is a gold tequila at 38% ABV from the family company Destilerías Sierra Unidas in Guadalajara. Compared with Sierra's clear Silver, it spends longer in cask, giving it its pale golden colour and a softer, rounder drinking style. Tequilas labelled gold or oro are distinguished from clear blancos by their golden colour.

What does Sierra Gold taste like?

According to retailer descriptions, Sierra Gold has a softer, more measured character than the brand's silver tequila. Cask contact smooths its edges, leaving a soft, rounded taste on the palate. A detailed description of its aroma and finish is not given here, as it is not available from reliable sources.

How is it made?

Sierra tequilas are made by the fourth generation of the González family from agave grown at roughly 1,600 metres in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains. Agaves are slowly roasted, fermented with the family's own yeast strain and distilled twice in traditional pot stills.

How is it served, and which foods does it pair with?

It can be served neat over ice, as a classic shot, or in cocktails such as the Tequila Sunrise. Its soft structure suits barbecue meats, spiced dishes and shared meze platters.
