Puerto de Indias Strawberry is a 37.5% ABV strawberry gin made at the Puerto de Indias distillery in Carmona, Seville, Spain. It is made with fresh Andalusian strawberries grown in the province of Huelva. The producer describes it as the gin that started the flavoured pink gin category, and emphasises that fresh strawberry is used through distillation.
What does Puerto de Indias Strawberry taste like?
The natural aroma of strawberry is felt immediately on the nose. Strawberry and juniper notes take up a large space on the palate, accompanied by light citrus touches. Its drink is both soft and refreshing. An independent review notes that although fruit dominates, a dry character is retained.
How should it be served?
The producer's suggestion is to place a few fresh strawberry slices in a glass chilled with plenty of ice, add about 5 cl of gin, then slowly pour and stir in the tonic. Mule-style cocktails made with lime, mint and ginger ale are also among the recommended serves.
Which dishes does it pair with?
Its strawberry, refreshing character suits strawberry or red-fruit desserts, fresh cheeses and fruity green salads; it also forms a good pairing with light strawberry-and-cream desserts.
