Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc is a 5% ABV wheat beer from the French-origin Kronenbourg brand. Flavoured with orange peel and coriander, it is a refreshing beer with a lightly hazy appearance and a citrus touch; the brand is now owned by the Danish Carlsberg group.
What is Kronenbourg's history?
The brand's story begins in 1664 in Strasbourg, with a small brewery opened in the city centre by master brewer Jérôme Hatt; the name 1664 comes from this founding year. 1664 Blanc was developed to carry on this heritage through a distinct wheat beer style, and it is known for its blue bottle. The brand can be brewed at different facilities in different countries.
What does 1664 Blanc taste like?
It has a pale yellow, hazy colour and a creamy white head. The aroma carries citrus along with exotic fruit tones reminiscent of apricot and peach. On the palate, a soft bitterness from the coriander is balanced by refreshing citrus, leaving a creamy texture in the mouth with a hint of white peach in the background.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It is served well chilled, in a wide-mouthed beer glass that leaves room for the head. Its light, citrussy character pairs well with fish and seafood, fresh salads and light breakfast or brunch dishes.
