Stella Artois is a 5% ABV Belgian-origin pilsner beer produced under licence in Turkey by Anadolu Efes. Stella Artois was first brewed in 1926 in Leuven, Belgium, as a Christmas beer; the "Stella" in its name refers to the Christmas star. The brand today belongs to AB InBev. With annual production exceeding one billion litres in 2006, Stella Artois is among the world's most widespread Belgian-origin beer brands.
What does Stella Artois taste like?
It is a golden-coloured beer with a lively, dense foam head. Fresh malt and hops stand out on the nose; on the palate, the light bitterness of hops is felt in balance. Its overall character is fresh, crisp and lively. Leuven's brewing tradition traces back to the brewery Sébastien Artois, who gave the brand its name, bought in 1717.
How should it be served?
It should be served well chilled. The brand is known for serving its beer in a distinctive stemmed glass (chalice), which gathers the foam and aroma.
What does Stella Artois pair well with?
Its crisp, refreshing character pairs well with fried foods and pan-fried fish. Charcuterie and meze platters are also a good choice; it is equally enjoyable on its own to cool off.
