Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier is a 5.4% ABV naturally cloudy Bavarian wheat beer produced by the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan in Freising, Germany. The state-owned Bavarian brewery gives its founding date as 1040; Hefe Weissbier is its best-known product, having won awards in international competitions.
What does Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier taste like?
It is a pale, amber-tinged, naturally cloudy beer with yeast in suspension, topped with a dense white foam head. Clove and light banana aromas stand out on the nose. On the palate, these fruity and spicy notes intertwine with the malt to create a balanced whole. Bitterness is low (14 IBU).
How should it be served?
The producer recommends a serving temperature of 6–8 °C. It is poured slowly into a tall, narrow-waisted wheat beer glass; swirling and adding the yeast left at the bottom of the bottle at the last moment completes the beer's natural cloudiness and aroma.
What does Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier pair well with?
The producer recommends it with Obazda, Bavaria's traditional cheese spread; mature, creamy cheeses are a good match. Grilled chicken and light salads also suit its banana and clove notes.
