Johnnie Walker Red Soul

Johnnie Walker Red Soul is one of the newest additions to Diageo's Johnnie Walker range, a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky that reinterprets the spirit of Red Label with a sweeter, softer profile. Unlike Red Label, it contains no smoky notes.

What sets Red Soul apart from Red Label?

According to Johnnie Walker, Red Soul draws on the same maturing cask reserves as Red Label and preserves its signature fresh spice, but the smoky notes found in the classic Red Label have been removed. According to one independent review, the blend uses predominantly whiskies matured in old bourbon casks, bringing cask-derived sweet tones to the fore. Master blender Emma Walker and her team designed this blend specifically to keep its character when mixed with mixers, and to shine in sweet, soft serves. The product first launched in selected European markets.

What does Johnnie Walker Red Soul taste like?

According to the producer's description, it is a sweet, soft blend: a rich vanilla sweetness opens into fudge-like confectionery and light oak notes, with a creamy finish. Independent tastings note brown sugar, butterscotch and apple tart on the nose, and silky vanilla, baked apple and gingerbread spice on the palate.

How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?

Johnnie Walker recommends Red Soul as a long drink with cola, lemonade or soda with a dash of orange bitters and a pinch of sea salt. Its sweet character is enjoyable alongside fruit desserts, barbecued food and nuts.
