John Walker & Sons XR 19 is a 40% ABV blended Scotch whisky from Diageo's premium John Walker & Sons range, part of the Johnnie Walker family, prepared from whiskies matured for at least 19 years.
What kind of blend is XR 19?
The blend is made up of whiskies matured for a long time in carefully selected American oak casks. According to retailer sources, the blend includes Glen Elgin and Strathmill malts from Speyside, along with a rare grain whisky from the now-closed Port Dundas distillery. This long maturation gives the blend a delicate, soft complexity.
What does John Walker & Sons XR 19 taste like?
Sweet woody aromas are felt on the nose. On the palate, rich toffee, brown sugar and treacle-like molasses tones stand out, joined by delicate spice and fruit notes. The finish is soft, leaving a light, lingering smokiness carried on a maritime breeze.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It is recommended to be sipped slowly, neat, at room temperature or with a few drops of water. Its toffee- and spice-led character pairs well with mature cheeses, dark-chocolate desserts and nuts.
