Gold Bar Whisky

Gold Bar Whisky is a 40% ABV blended American whiskey given a final finish in Napa Valley wine barrels by the Gold Bar Whiskey distillery in San Francisco. It is the brand's core product, sold under the name "Original".

How is it made?

The mash bill is 88% corn, 9% rye and 3% barley. Gold Bar sources its base whiskies from various American distilleries and rests them at its San Francisco facility in French oak wine barrels previously used at Napa Valley wineries. According to the producer, the wine barrel brings out the whiskey's fruity side and softens the drink. Montgomery Paulsen, a second-generation Napa Valley winemaker, leads the blending. The whiskey has won a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

What does Gold Bar Whisky taste like?

It is a light-bodied, easy-drinking whiskey. Honey, red fruit and light spice notes are to the fore on the palate; the producer describes it as a versatile whiskey suited to both sipping neat and mixing in cocktails.

How should it be served, and which foods does it pair well with?

It can be drunk neat or with a single large ice cube; it is also used in mule-style long drinks made with ginger beer and in classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned. Its sweetish, smooth character pairs well with barbecued meats, grilled chicken and roasted nuts.
