Casoni l'Aperitivo 1814 Ricetta Originale is a red Italian aperitif with 15% ABV, produced by Casoni, a family company based in Finale Emilia in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. The 1814 in its name refers to the date of the original recipe it is based on. It is made with selected herbs, roots, citrus and spices.
It is bright ruby red in colour. Citrus peel, herbs and light floral notes form a fresh, spiced whole on the nose. On the palate, a fruity sweetness meets a balanced bitterness; orange, rhubarb and fine botanical notes are pronounced. The finish is refreshing, lightly bitter and aromatic, lasting a long time.
Its classic use is as a spritz: mixed with Prosecco and soda in a glass full of ice, garnished with an orange slice. It can also be used as the bitter component in classic cocktails such as Negroni and Americano. The product won gold in the bitters and mixers category at the 2024 London Spirits Competition.
Antipasti platters, olives, cured ham, mature cheeses and light starters go well alongside this aperitif. Its sweet-bitter balance pairs especially well with salty, rich snacks, making it a good opening to an aperitivo table before dinner.
