Bottega Limoncino is a 30% ABV traditional Italian lemon liqueur, or limoncello, made by the Bottega company in Veneto from the peel of Femminello lemons. The producer traces this type of liqueur back to the late 19th century; Limoncino's production regions are given as Veneto and Sicily.
How is Bottega Limoncino made?
Femminello is a widely grown Italian lemon variety known for its thin-grained peel and quality essential oils. Lemons harvested at peak ripeness are peeled by hand; the bitter white pith is removed, and only the essential-oil-rich yellow peel is used. The peels are steeped in alcohol for around 30 days to draw out aroma and colour compounds, after which sugar and a small amount of grappa are added to the liquid.
What does Bottega Limoncino taste like?
The lemon-yellow liqueur has a nose with the intense aroma of ripe lemon. On the palate it shows a sweet, full, juicy structure with a light citrus freshness.
How is it served?
The producer recommends serving the liqueur chilled to -18 °C, that is, from the freezer, in a tumbler glass. It can be drunk neat as an after-dinner liqueur or used in aperitif cocktails.
What desserts does it pair with?
As the producer suggests, it pairs very well with ice cream, sorbet and fresh fruit salad; lemon tarts and light fruit desserts are also natural companions.
