Pallini Limoncello Deruta

Pallini Limoncello Deruta is a 26% ABV Italian limoncello liqueur made from Sfusato lemons native to the Amalfi Coast, by Rome-based Pallini S.p.A. The liqueur inside the bottle is the same as the brand's classic Pallini Limoncello. The Deruta name comes from a town in Italy's Umbria region known for its hand-painted ceramics; Pallini sometimes presents its limoncello in gift packaging with hand-made ceramic cups from Deruta.

What kind of producer is Pallini?

The family company's foundation was laid in 1875 by Nicola Pallini in Antrodoco; the company, which moved to Rome in 1922, still produces liqueurs and syrups at its Rome facility today. The limoncello is made to the family's preserved recipe, from the peel of PGI-certified Sfusato lemons grown without chemical pesticides on terraces and hand-picked. The producer emphasises that the limoncello has a fresh drinking style that doesn't burn.

What does it taste like?

The nose is intense and fruity; ripe lemon notes dominate. On the palate, freshly grated lemon peel appears with a full body, its sweetness balanced by the lemon's tartness. The long finish leaves light, dry spice traces.

How is it served, and what food does it pair with?

Traditionally it is drunk neat in small glasses from a bottle chilled in the freezer; it can also be lengthened with tonic or sparkling wine for a refreshing drink. It pairs well with fruity desserts such as lemon tart, fruit salad and ice cream; it can also be served at the close of a meal built around grilled fish and seafood.
