Woodford Reserve is a 43.2% ABV small batch Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced by Brown-Forman at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Kentucky. It is the brand's flagship product, also known as "Distiller's Select", launched in 1996.
How is it made?
Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select is created by blending whiskey distilled in copper pot stills at the historic distillery in Woodford County with whiskey distilled in a column still at Brown-Forman's facility in Shively. As a bourbon, it matures in new charred American oak barrels. Woodford Reserve is also known as the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.
What does Woodford Reserve taste like?
The nose offers cinnamon and nutmeg, with fresh mint beneath; then cookie dough, brioche, honey, apricot and sultana-sweetened citrus peel emerge. The palate is balanced between sweet fruit, toasted oak and warm spice; cinnamon pastry and brown sugar notes are freshened by mint. The finish keeps dried fruit and sweet spice in harmony.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It can be enjoyed neat or with a single large ice cube; it is also one of the bourbons most often chosen for classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned and Mint Julep. Its rich, sweet-spicy character pairs well with grilled red meat, mature cheeses and dark chocolate desserts.
