Jim Beam Double Oak is a 43% ABV Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced by James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Kentucky, matured in two separate charred oak casks. The brand is now part of the Suntory Global Spirits group.

What does double casking add?

According to the producer, the bourbon is first matured in new, charred American white oak casks, then transferred to a second charred oak cask. This second contact with oak gives the whiskey a darker amber colour, along with pronounced spiced oak and sweet caramel notes.

What does it taste like?

Rich notes of caramel and vanilla combine with toasted wood on the nose. On the palate, intense caramel and caramel confectionery stand out, along with a distinctive spiced oak. Master of Malt also notes milk chocolate, cardamom and vanilla ice cream. The finish is soft and lingering.

How should it be served, and what does it pair with?

It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned. It pairs well with grilled red meat, barbecued food and dark-chocolate desserts. A few drops of water when drinking it neat softens the oak's spice and brings out the caramel and vanilla notes more clearly.
