The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is a 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, bottled at 40% ABV and produced at The Glenlivet distillery, owned by Pernod Ricard's Chivas Brothers. It is one of the world's best-known single malts and represents the distillery's fruity "house style" in its purest form.
Why "Double Oak"?
Labelled "Double Oak" on current bottlings, this whisky is matured using a combination of European and American oak casks. According to the producer, this combination produces a soft profile where tropical fruit and sweet vanilla tones interweave. The distillery uses water from the mineral-rich Josie's Well spring for mashing and fermentation.
What does Glenlivet 12 Year Old taste like?
The nose is grassy and floral, with soft citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit alongside almond and hazelnut. On the palate, the sweet fruitiness of peach and pear is rounded out with vanilla and toffee, and the structure is delicate and balanced. The finish is soft, gentle and long.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It can be enjoyed neat, with a few drops of water, or over ice; its light body also makes it a good choice for those new to whisky. Its floral, fruity character pairs well with fish and seafood, fresh cheeses and fruit-based desserts.
