Aberlour 18 Year Old is an 18-year-matured, 43% ABV single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Aberlour Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. The current release is presented as "Double Sherry Cask Finish" and belongs to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard.
In this release, the whisky completes its final maturation in two different sherry casks: oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks made of Spanish oak. According to the producer, it owes its richness and intensity to this full sherry finish. Aberlour 18 was first introduced in 2008 and, with its mature, heavily sherried character, stands out among the brand's range.
The nose shows ripe fruit, orange peel, toffee-laced bun and plum jam. The palate is rich and fruity; apricot, chocolate-covered raisin, liquorice and freshly grated nutmeg stand out. The finish is long and layered, with a lasting sweetness.
It is a whisky to be sipped unhurriedly, neat or with a few drops of water. Its richly sherried character pairs well with mature cheeses, dark chocolate desserts and roasted nuts.
