The Glenlivet 18 Year Old is an 18-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, bottled at 40% ABV and produced at The Glenlivet distillery, owned by Pernod Ricard's Chivas Brothers. The producer describes this bottling as a rich, balanced whisky crafted for special occasions, and it is considered a fine example of the mature Speyside style.
How is it matured?
The whisky matures for more than 18 years, predominantly in first- and second-fill American oak casks alongside traditional casks and old sherry casks. American oak brings vanilla and sweet fruit, while the sherry casks add dried fruit and chocolate depth.
What does Glenlivet 18 Year Old taste like?
The nose is complex: rich, sweet fruit such as banana and juicy plum is layered with dark chocolate and sweet toffee, with hints of candied cherry and crème brûlée. The palate is soft, bringing charred orange, sweet dried cranberry and gentle cinnamon spice into balance, while notes of dark chocolate shift into vanilla caramel. The finish is long, rich and fruity, leaving a warming spice.
How should it be served, and what food does it pair with?
It is recommended sipped slowly, neat or with a few drops of water. Its fruity, chocolatey character pairs well with dark chocolate desserts, mature cheeses and roasted nuts.
